Activities:
In accordance with the Older Americans Act of 1965, evaluate programs and services available in South Dakota and make recommendations to the Department of Social Services for improvements or integration of those activities to benefit older South Dakotans; work with DSS on ways to meet continuum of care needs of the state’s elderly population and adults with disabilities; ensure representation of older South Dakotans regarding administrative and social concerns that would improve their status.

Composition:
The Governor may appoint as many members as deemed necessary to accomplish the council’s goals. Members shall be geographically distributed and a majority must consist of actual or potential consumers of services under the Older Americans Act.
Term of Appointment:
No term limits.

Frequency of Meetings:
Meetings are held two times per year. Members are paid to attend meeting. Members are reimbursed for travel.
