Authorization:
Section 20-13-2 of the South Dakota Codified Laws
Activities:
Hold hearings and consider and investigate complaints alleging unfair or discriminatory practice and attempt to eliminate discrimination by education and conciliation.
Organization:
Administered under the direction and supervision of the Division of Human Rights. Retains quasijudicial, quasi-legislative, advisory, other non-administrative and special budgetary functions.
Composition:
Five members appointed by the Governor. No more than three from the same political party and two of whom shall, in the opinion of the Governor, be experienced in or have a favorable reputation for skill, knowledge and experience in the management or operations of a business enterprise. Appointments shall take into consideration geographical area insofar as may be practicable
Term of Appointment:
Four years, expiring June 30 of an odd-numbered year
