Authorization:
Chapter 36-13 of the South Dakota Codified Laws
Activities:
Examine for and issue certificates of registration. Regulate and control the operation of abstract plants
and abstractors.
Organization:
Attached to the Department of Labor and Regulation for reporting purposes only.
Composition:
Five members appointed by the Governor. Four members of the board shall be abstracters who have
been qualified to do the business of abstracting for five years prior to the date of their appointment. The
members may not be all of the same political party. Also one lay member who is a user of services.
Term of Appointment:
Three Years. Lay member may not serve for more than three consecutive full terms.
