Authorization:
Chapter 36-34 of the South Dakota Codified Laws; amended March 4, 2013
Activities:
Protect the public by setting standards of professionalism and competence in the practice of addiction counseling and prevention services. Issue and renew certificates and licenses upon completion of requirements and successfully passing the national examination. Investigate complaints and determine disciplinary action.

Composition:
The Governor shall appoint the members to the board:
Nine members.
1. Three lay members
2. Six professionals certified or licensed pursuant to this chapter. Each professional member shall be
actively engaged in addiction counseling or prevention services.
Term of Appointment:
36-34-3. Appointment of board members--Terms. The Governor shall appoint the members to the board for terms of three years which shall begin on the thirty-first day of October.
Terms shall expire on October 30 of the third year of appointment. Not more than 3 successive terms.
Frequency of Meetings:
The Board meets quarterly on the first Thursday of the month in February, May, August and November.

The mission of the South Dakota Board of Addiction and Prevention Professionals (BAPP) is to provide a foundation for the continuing development of practitioners in the field as well as the credentialing of addiction and prevention professionals within generally accepted standards of professionalism and competence using valid and reliable examinations.
