Chapter 36-32 of the South Dakota Codified Laws
Issue licenses for licensed professional counselor and certify counselor associates.

36-32-2 The Governor shall appoint all nine (9) members: 1. Three (3) lay members; 2. One (1) counselor educator; 3. Five (5) professionals actively engaged in professional counseling or marriage and family therapy and broadly representing a cross section of the licensed disciplines governed by this board.
Term of Appointment:
Length and number of terms: Appointments to the board shall be for terms of three (3) years and begin on October 31st. The appointee's term shall expire on October 30th in the third year of appointment. No member of the board may serve for more than three successive full terms. Appointment to an unexpired term is not considered a full term.
Frequency of Meetings:
The Board meets bi-monthly. Meetings are either in person or via teleconference.
