During the 2020 Legislative Session, Senate Bill 156 was introduced, passed both houses and was signed by Governor Noem. Senate Bill 156 highlighted that with a stand-alone Veterans Affairs Department and cabinet secretary, there was no longer a need for a veteran’s commission. With passage of Senate Bill 156, the South Dakota Veterans Commission was abolished effective July 1, 2020.
