Chapter 16-2, Section 55 of the South Dakota Codified Laws
Activities:
To provide grants to nonprofit entities that are funded, or nonprofit entities contracting with nonprofit entities that are funded, by the Legal Services Corporation and deliver legal services to persons meeting income eligibility guidelines.
Organization:
Members are appointed by the Governor, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and the President of the State Bar
Composition:
Seven Members
1) Three members appointed by the Governor who are not lawyers. (One initial appointment for a term of one year, one initial appointment for a term of two years, and one initial appointment for a term of three years.)
2) Two members appointed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court who are lawyers. (One initial term for two years and one initial term for three years.)
3) Two members appointed by the president of the State Bar of South Dakota who are lawyers. (One initial term for one year and one initial term for three years.)
Term of Appointment:
Each appointment shall be for a term of three years, beginning on the first day of July.
